Alytic invests in Factlines to build a European leader in supply chain responsibility

Building a European leader in responsible supply chains

Alytic, a company owned by Arendals Fossekompani, has acquired 62 percent of Factlines to scale the company into a European one-stop-shop for responsible supply chains, ESG reporting, and lifecycle assessments. This investment provides capital for significant growth and product development, with more than 20 new positions being added across sustainability, technology, and sales.

“Factlines is a good match for Alytic. The company has a highly competent team, a great software-as-a-service solution, a solid customer base and great potential,” says Espen Zachariassen, CEO of Alytic.

Strengthening digital sustainability solutions

Factlines was founded in 2012 to support the Norwegian government’s ambition to drive sustainable procurement. Over the past decade, the company has developed a specialised software platform that enables structured and scalable supplier mapping, due diligence, and transparency reporting.

“Future market leaders must not only be good at economics, but also at ecology and sustainability,” said Siri Engesæth, then CEO of Factlines. “To achieve this, it is necessary to engage with suppliers in an efficient and systematic way. Factlines facilitates this work with our digital network solution. With Alytic on board, we can take our services to the highest level.”

With its headquarters in Norway and a growing presence, Factlines primarily serves Nordic public procurement organisations and private companies with complex supply chains.

The Transparency Act creates a tipping point for compliance

The Norwegian Transparency Act (åpenhetsloven) came into force on July 1, 2022. It mandates companies to carry out due diligence assessments related to human rights and working conditions through out their supply chains.

“The Transparency Act changes everything. Supply chain documentation used to be a nice-to-have, but now it will be required by law,” said Engesæth. “At a time when most businesses will struggle to comply with the new law, Factlines already offers a solution that is digital, easy to implement, and more affordable than consultants offering similar services.”

A strategic scale-up to meet market demand

Alytic brings both capital and strategic expertise to Factlines, and sees clear opportunities to grow the company’s impact and reach.

“We are looking to scale up Factlines and we think the timing is perfect to do so,” says Zachariassen.

Alytic’s investment approach focuses on companies with strong domain knowledge and valuable data sets. Other companies in its portfolio include Kontali, Utel, and Veyt (previously Greenfact.)

“Alytic will add knowledge and capacity in business development and technology. There are obvious synergies between Factlines and Veyt, and also between Factlines and Arendals Fossekompani, which has a strong focus on ESG,” Zachariassen adds.

A strengthened board with deep sustainability expertise

Sustainability Director Ingunn Ettestøl from Arendals Fossekompani has joined the board of Factlines to support its next phase of growth.

“Factlines will complement the sustainability team and simplify the documentation process. I look forward to working with Siri and her team,” says Ettestøl.
